In 2009, the Bombay High Court ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remove slums along the main water pipelines in the city and keep a 10-m buffer zone around them. Around 1000 houses were razed to the ground on May 13, 2017. On June 12 of the same year, all the residents were shifted by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) to buildings in Mahul.

After 1 year, the rehabilitation has gone wrong and the residents are facing a slow death as if in a gas chamber…
