A case of sedition was filed against the former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti for her statement on Martyr’s day where she said that if her party was broken by New Delhi then more Salahudin’s and Yasin Malik’s would be born. The case was filed by Viresh Shandilya, spokesman of Shree Hindu Takht (SHT) and President of Anti-Terrorist Front India in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ambala under sections 121, 124 A and 153 of Indian Penal Code.
The complainant also stated that the case against Mehbooba Mufti is even stronger as her late father Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had thanked the Pakistan and militants before his swearing –in ceremony in 2014 for the creating the conducive atmosphere for state assembly elections, which took place peacefully.
He also claimed that Mehbooba has given a call to militants to take Kashmir into their own hands. “It is the need of hour that the accused may be summoned, tried and punished under the aforesaid sections so that the country may not suffer,†the complaint reads.â€
The 1987 elections were rigged in favour of the Indian National Congress and the National Conference though the Muslim Front had come victorious. This led to the birth of insurgency and militants like Yasin Malik.
