In a shocking turn of events, the sealed envelope of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) which was supposed to have the key evidence in the Kathua rape and murder case, was empty when it was opened before the court in Pathankot Punjab.
The envelope was brought from FSL Delhi to the Crime Branch and was opened before the district and session’s court in Pathankot on Tuesday. The envelope contained the hair strands of Aasifa and it was a piece of key evidence recovered from the scene of the crime by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The hair strands that were recovered by the SIT team inside the temple had confirmed the crime since the 8 -year old girl was held captive, starved and raped inside the temple. where the 8-year-old girl was gang raped for a week had confirmed the crime. A charge sheet was then filed by police corroborating the report that the victim was held captive and gang raped. An officer in the Crime Branch said that the hair strands were consumed during lab test. However, hair strands normally get consumed when FSL experts extract DNA.
On January 10, 8-year-old Aasifa went missing and her body was recovered a week later. She was found to be held captive, raped and murdered inside temple premises.
