Ehtisham Bilal, a Kashmiri student, who is pursuing B.Tech at Sharda University campus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh went missing from Sharda University campus on 28th October. Earlier, Ehtisham was thrashed by goons in the same campus and in the ensuing shuffle, he was injured and hospitalized. According to Ehtisham’s father, Bilal Ahmad Sofi, all was well until October 4.
“When I spoke to my son, he told me that he was beaten up by some students for looking like an Afghan native. I spoke to the university authorities regarding this. They asked me if I wanted to register an FIR in this regard, against those who assaulted my son.” However, I didn’t do it because doing so can jeopardise my son’s career,” he said. “I spoke to him in the morning (on October 28). He asked for money and I transferred 5000 to his account but he had withdrawn only 400,” he added. “It was the last day that I spoke to my son and from that day his phone is switched off.”
On Thursday, the family and relatives of Ehtisham organised a sit-in and made a passionate appeal to the Governor Satya Pal Malik and all others to help trace their lone son. Ehtisham’s father and ailing mother Irfana joined the protest along with their relatives to seek the whereabouts of their son.
Perturbed by her son’s disappearance, Ehtisham’s mother, Irfana was taken ill and admitted to a local hospital. Sitting on a wheelchair, Ehtisham’s distraught mother pleaded the public to help them bring back Ehtisham.
According to the police, the phone location of Ehtisham has changed from Poonch (Jammu) to Sopore (Srinagar). However, the police is still unable to trace Ehtisham. Meanwhile, former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, have expressed concern over the disappearance of the Kashmiri student.
