The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir has commenced the process of pressing perjury charges against a witness in the case of rape and murder of eight-year-old Aasifa after he withdrew a confessional statement recorded in front of the magistrate.
The session judge of Pathankot, Tejwinder Singh issued a show cause notice to Ajay Kumar to explain why an action shouldn’t be initiated against him. Earlier, the district and session court has framed charges under various sections of the Penal Code including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder) and 376-D (gang rape). The accused against whom charges were framed were Sanji Ram, his son Vishal, special police officers Deepak Khajuria alias Deepu and Surinder Verma, Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, head Constable Tilak Raj, and sub inspector Arvind Datta.
On February 27, Ajay Kumar had recorded his statement before the magistrate that one of the accused Parvesh Kumar alias “Mannu” had given a graphical description about the rape and subsequent murder of Aasifa. The show cause notice served to Kumar stated that they were initiating action against him for voluntarily retracting from a statement under section 164-A CrPC during the deposition as a prosecution witness before the court.
