The National Human Rights Commission, following media reports, on Friday sent a notice to Uttar Pradesh Government seeking a detailed report on the allegations of threat and harassment of the state agencies to the Unnao rape victim. NHRC observed that it is a serious violation of the right to live of the victim and her family, if the media reports are true, and it is the responsibility of the government to provide protection for the victim, her family members and the witnesses of the case, according to a report by the news agency ANI.

The victim was allegedly raped by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar at his residence in Unnao on June 4, 2017. He was arrested by the CBI in April. Earlier this week a forgery case was filed against the victim and her family members.
