The BJP shipped 101 out of its 104 MLAs to a 5-star hotel in Gurgaon amid allegations of horse trading late on January 14, 2019. It was Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar who claimed for the first time that 5 of its MLAs were missing and made allegations that they were in a hotel along with BJP leaders. The BJP MLAs were already in Delhi for the party’s national council meet and meetings on Lok Sabha poll preparedness found about the change in plans only later.
BJP leader and former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa blame it on the current Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. He claimed that Kumaraswamy was in touch with some BJP leaders and that this move was for protecting heir MLAs from being poached.
Some Congress leaders seesaw the BJP move to house it’s MLAs in a hotel as a precursor to the party moving a motion of no confidence in the Assembly. The Karnataka chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy sought to downplay the incident by saying that he was in contact with the Congress MLAs and that he was capable of handling the situation.
