2018 sixth warmest year in India: IMD

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared 2018 to be the sixth warmest year in its recorded history since it commenced recording weather events in 1901.

IMD noted that the temperatures in 2018 was significantly above average and had lost more than 1400 lives in extreme weather events last year. M Rajeevan, secretary of the ministry of earth science told the TOI that all the six warmest years on record were in the past ten years. He also added that better weather forecasting system and robust disaster management would enable authorities to protect lives.
