A Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Stephan Raveendra revealed that “IT Grids India Private limited” had accessed data related to the voters in Telangana. IT Grids was behind the creation of Seva Mitra app for Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Reports say that the company had illegally obtained data pertaining to 3.7 crore voters spread across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The government had appointed a particular investigation team to look into the data theft related issue before the Lok Sabha elections. The incident set on a war of words between the political leaders of Andhra and Telangana.

It is also alleged that TDP stole this data in order to use for the election campaign. TDP, on the other hand, stated that TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) stole the data for its ally YSR Congress Party(YSRCP). As of now, police have arrested four employees from IT Grids.

The incident also set a tiff between Andhra and Telangana police officials. Though the Andhra police made an attempt to arrest Lokeshwar, the head of IT Grids, the Cyberabad police thwarted the attempt.

Police said that they are yet to figure out what exactly can be done with the data. “What is the need for accessing the data? Why they did it? We have a suspicion whether they tried to manipulate our data,” Stephan Raveendra said in a recent press conference.

The role of Bluefox mobile technologies private limited in the case is also being checked. The SIT team also have made it clear that the case is complicated and would require a lot of investigation. “There is no need to panic. The accused will be brought to book,” Stephan said.

The police have found out that sensitive information of people including personal information, aadhar card details, beneficiary details of government schemes etc was procured by the company. “We noticed personal information such as name, village, caste and type of government scheme they were availing in the app,” he added.

Till now, two cases have been registered by the Andhra and Telangana police. Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy of YSRCP said that CM Chandra Babu Naidu should take moral responsibility. He also added that Naidu was stooping low by projecting it as an issue between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments.
