Putting an end to all the speculations, Vijayakanth’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) will be joining with AIADMK-BJP alliance. DMDK is offered four seats as per the current arrangement. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam in a press conference along with DMDK chief Vijayakanth and Chief Minister K Palinaswami.
DMDK had run into a controversy, as it was having simultaneous discussions with arch-rivals Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). However, DMK treasurer Duraimugan said, “We have no room for DMDK in our alliance.”
He confirmed to the media that DMDK’s L.K Sudhish approached him to reconsider the alliance. “I said to them that your party is not in a steady phase. Two days back OPS (O.Paneerselvam) met your leader and the photos were all over the Internet and now you are asking whether you could join us, How can I believe you?,” he further added.
O.Paneerselvam, who made the announcement of the alliance also informed that DMDK would continue this support in the by-elections to 21 assembly constituencies. However, discussions regarding constituency allocation are still going on.
“I told you to wait for two days for good news. AIADMK and DMDK have always made a successful alliance, as is explained by the victory achieved by the two parties in the 2011 Assembly polls. Puratchi Thalaivi (late Jayalalithaa) and Captain (Vijayakant) together formed the winnable alliance and this alliance will also prove that tomorrow is ours and forty seats are also ours. We will make a crowning achievement,” said Ms.Premalatha of DMDK about the alliance.
With DMDK joining the AIADMK front, all the major political parties in the state have chosen their sides except for actor turned politician Kamal Haasan and TTV Dinakaran who will be seen contesting alone.
AIADMK which is in alliance with PMK and BJP have allotted 7 and 5 seats respectively to each of the parties. While other alliance partners Puthiya Tamizhagam, the All India N.R. Congress (for Puducherry) and the New Justice Party (NJP) have got one seat each.
The general elections of 2014 witnessed AIADMK winning 37 seats of the 39 Lok Sabha seats. As per Election Commission, Tamil Nadu will be voting on April 18th, in the second phase of General elections.
