An FIR has been registered against three Congress legislators, who were likely to be nominated as Lok Sabha candidates, on a complaint of sexual misconduct, related to the solar case, on Thursday. The complaint is filed against Ernakulam Congress legislator Hibi Eden under section 376 (rape) and section 354 A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), former state Ministers Adoor Prakash under section 376 (rape), section 354 (A) and section 120 (O) (causing through any means of communication nuisance to any person) of the Kerala Police Act and A.P. Anil Kumar under section 377 (unnatural sex), section 354 (A) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and section 420 (cheating).
Hiby Eden was fielded from the Ernakulam seat, while Adoor Prakash was considered for either Attingal or Alappuzha and Anil Kumar was considered for Alathur.
It was in 2013 the complainant and her partner Biju Radhakrishnan had allegedly duped several businessmen of crores of rupees by promising solar panels at cheap rates. In this case, she had alleged that former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had raped her at his official residence in 2012. She also alleged rape by K.C. Venugopal at the residence of the then state minister A.P. Anil Kumar. But, Congress spokesmen reacted that she is voluntarily instigating the issue to put the party in trouble during the election period.
Though the party axed the candidature of K.V Thomas and fixed Hiby Eden, the other two accused did not make it to the list. Remya Haridas was given Alathur constituency where Anil Kumar was considered. However, the candidature of Atiingal seat is yet not announced. It will be a hard task for the party to find someone in Attingal instead of Adoor Prakash.
In between all these issues, the Idukki seat of P.J. Joseph is making the scene even hotter. Even if the party is not willing to hurt Joseph, a majority don’t want him to be given a seat in Idukki.
