The BJP on Monday announced to give a ticket to former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir from the East Delhi seat and renominated senior leader Meenakshi Lekhi from New Delhi. So far, candidates for six of the seven seats have been announced by the BJP in the national capital. The party released its second list of candidates for the capital on Monday.
Maheish Girri was to fielded from East Delhi, now replaced by Gambhir. Gambhir will be contesting against Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress Party and Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Lekhi will be contesting against AAP’s Brajesh Goel and Ajay Maken of the Congress.
Minister of Science and technology Harsh Vardhan from Chandni Chowk seat, Manoj Tiwari from North-east Delhi, Pravesh Verma from West Delhi and Ramesh Bidhuri from South Delhi are the four sitting MPs who will be again given tickets by the BJP, announced the party while releasing its first list of candidate for Delhi on Sunday. Earlier in the day, the Congress declared names of its candidates for six out of seven seats in Delhi. But the party hasn’t yet named its candidate for the North-west Delhi voting demographic. The BJP had won each of the seven seats in the national capital in the last poll.
Gambhir had joined the BJP a month ago. “I have been influenced by the PM, his vision for the country. This is a fabulous platform for me to do something for the country,” he had said after joining the party last month.
Meanwhile, Congress Central Election Committee announced Vijender Singh as the candidate for the ensuing elections to the Lok Sabha from South Delhi constituency of Delhi late on April 22nd. Sheila Dikshit, former Delhi chief minister and DPCC president, has been named as Congress’s candidate from North East Delhi and JP Aggarwal from Chandni Chowk.
