Addressing Narendra Modi as BJP Babu, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee asked, if he has built one Ram temple. Earlier, at a public rally held in Jhargram, Modi had challenged Mamata to “throw him in jail,” for his “Jai Shri Ram” chants.
In Bengal, three people were reportedly arrested for chanting “Jai Shri Ram” as Mamata’s convoy was passing by. Modi pointed out the incident in an election rally at Jhargram and said, “Didi has thrown people into jail for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. I thought of greeting her with the chant so she can throw me behind bars, too. I will then serve the innocent people who are in jail for chanting in praise of Lord Ram.”
Escalating the war of words, Mamata responded,” You BJP babu, you say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ but have you built even one Ram temple? At the time of elections, Ram Chandra becomes your party agent; you say ‘Ram Chandra is my election agent’. You say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and force others to say it.”
For years, Ram temple had been the major election propaganda of BJP. It featured in this year’s manifesto as well. It talked about “expeditious construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.”
