Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is continually attacking his father and former PM Rajiv Gandhi, of being obsessed with his family.
“I don’t think about my father, grandmother or great-grandfather as much as Mr Modi does. He thinks that that’s the place where he’s going to find his escape. Best of luck to him”, Rahul said in an interview.
He also denied Modi’s remarks that his father used warship for a holiday trip. “Why would anyone holiday on an aircraft carrier? It’s not a cruise ship”, Rahul said.
On Wednesday, Modi had accused the Gandhi family of using INS Viraat as its “personal taxi” for a holiday back in 1987 while speaking at a rally in Delhi. “INS Viraat was insulted by using it as a personal taxi. This happened when Rajiv Gandhi and his family were out for a 10-day vacation. INS Viraat was deployed for securing our maritime boundary. But it was diverted to take the Gandhi family which was out for a vacation”, Modi had said.
At the same time, a former Navy chief had come out to rebut the claims made by PM Modi. Rejecting the claims of the current PM, former Navy chief Admiral (Retd) L. Ramdas said, “Rajiv Gandhi, along with his wife Sonia Gandhi, boarded INS Virat from Trivandrum, where he was the chief guest for the National Games prize distribution ceremony”.
