Delhi’s BJP East candidate Gautam Gambhir sent defamation notices to AAP leaders Atishi Marlena, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for claiming that he had distributed a pamphlet containing “obscene and derogatory” remarks against Marlena.
The notice states that Gambhir has o knowledge of the pamphlet and he unequivocally condemns it. Gambhir had earlier said that the entire issue was cooked up by AAP for gaining sympathy votes.
He had tweeted, “I abhor your act of outraging a woman’s modesty, Arvind Kejriwal, and that too your own colleague. And all this for winning elections? ‘[You’re] filth Mr CM and someone needs your very own broom to clean your dirty mind.”
The notice also said the accusations were made just three days before the election to “illegally influence the minds of the voters and tarnish the pristine image” of Gambhir.
“I am from a family where I have been taught to respect women. I didn’t know CM Arvind Kejriwal would stoop so low. I have filed a defamation case,” responded Gambhir to ANI. He also added that he is ready to withdraw his candidature if AAP could prove his involvement in the pamphlet and asked if Marlena would do the same if she is proven wrong.
To this accusation, Atishi responded, “It is sickening to say that my party [AAP] did it. But this is the exact kind of politics that the BJP indulges in.”
East Delhi constituency, which Atishi and Gambhir are contesting in ill go for polling on Sunday (12th May).
