With Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a visit to Kedarnath Temple amid Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), on Sunday, alleged that M Modi’s trip to Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Addition to this, the party has also complained to the Election Commission over PM Modi’s spiritual trip as LS polls are about to close.

Writing to the EC, TMC leader Derek O’Brien
wrote, “I Would like to bring to your notice that even though the Election Campaign for the last phase of polling for 2019 Lok Sabha ins over as long as back on 17th May 2019 at 6 pm, surprisingly, Shri Narendra Modi’ Kedarnath Yatra is being covered and widely televised for the last two days in all the national as well as local media. This is a gross violation of Model Code of Conduct.”

“It is absolutely unethical and morally incorrect. Every minute detail of his activities during the visit is being widely publicised with an ulterior motive to influence voters directly and/or indirectly. “Modi Modi” chants are also being heard from the background,” he said.

Meanwhile, PM Modi thanked the Election Commission on Sunday for granting him permission to visit the Kedarnath shrine at a time when the model code of conduct is in force. Modi, who spent around 17 hours at a holy cave near the shrine, also offered prayers and performed puja at the temple.
