Team India is ready for their King’s Cup campaign against Caribbean side Curacao at the Chang Arena in Buriram today. It will be Igor Stimac’s first test as the Indian national team’s head coach. Curacao is ranked 82 in the latest FIFA World Ranking, while India stands at 101.
“We can feel the excitement on the players’ faces. They are excited about playing together for the first time as a group. I sincerely hope they will enjoy the football we will play,” newly appointed head coach Igor Stimac, said at the pre-match press conference.
Curacao will use the tournament as a platform to prepare for the Gold Cup later in June.
“The King’s Cup is a competitive tournament in Thailand. The circumstances here are ideal for training and hence we are focusing on getting ready for our next two matches,” said head coach Remko Bicentini.
As many as six players are part of the Indian senior team for the first time and Sunil Chhetri lauded them for their achievement.
“I see a lot of desire among the new boys. Who knows, a few boys could start for the senior team against Curacao. So it will be a huge moment for them. I remember how I felt when I made my debut and it’s truly magical, a moment you never forget. I wish them all the luck and really hope they do well’, Chhetri said.
