BJP in Manipur is witnessing a major power crisis as several ministers, MP’s and MLA’s have rushed to New Delhi demanding a leadership change and cabinet reshuffle. The turmoil unfolded as Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh and Minister Thongam Bishwajit Singh, who were recently sacked, hit out against the N Biren Singh government.
Y Joykumar was handling finance while Thongam Bishwajit lost the works and power portfolio. The decision to reshuffle came after these departments were accused of drawing excessive funds at the time of financial crisis. Presently, CM Biren Singh has taken charge of their portfolios.
Though the Chief Minister’s Office has stated that the decision was taken after a cabinet decision, the ousted ministers alleged foul play and called it a political game.
“Governments in the past have encountered a similar situation of the overdraft, but this time, for reasons best known to them, this has been blown out of proportion,” Bishwajith said.
