Mumbai police had issued a lookout circular against Binoy Kodiyeri, the elder son of CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday(26th June). Binoy was accused of rape on the pretext of marriage by a 33-year-old Mumbai based woman. He has been absconding since the allegation came up. The woman had also claimed that she had an eight-year-old child in the relationship.
The Dindoshi branch of Bombay City Civil and Sessions Court will be hearing Binoy’s bail plea tomorrow. A police team was sent to Kerala to take the accused into custody, however, they returned empty-handed.
Mumbai police also informed that they would be taking the statement of the victim and her lawyer within a week. The police also added they would not trace Binoy until his anticipatory bail is considered by the court on Thursday.
The passport of the woman leaked to the media mentions Binoy as her spouse. Media has also released a statement of Bank transactions, which confirms that Binoy transferred an amount of Rs 7.5 lakh on three separate occasions to the woman’s bank account in 2013.
The police have booked Binoy under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of the property on the complaint).
Meanwhile, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan distanced himself from the case by stating that neither he nor the party will support Binoy.
“Binoy is an adult and he has his own family and now with the allegations coming out, it’s his responsibility to prove his innocence. If a member of a party member does anything, it does not become the responsibility of the party. Neither I nor the party will do anything in this case to help him,” he said.
