Houseboats which were seen so far in Alappuzha would soon start cruising from Marine Drive of Kochi, all thanks to Empire Greenix and DTPC Kochi. Marine Drive boat Jetty from now will have a terminal dedicated specifically for House Boats. Empire Greenix will be introducing around 50 houseboats along with facilities for night stay in the coming days.
The inauguration of the programme was done by state Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran. Empire Greenix is a joint venture of Dubai based marine manufacturers Empire marine, and Fort Kochi based event organisers Greenix.
As of now, the facility of night stay is not open and the company will be introducing a single boat with two-bedrooms, and two-speed boats informed Saritha Babu, the director of Greenix responding to The Woke Journal.
If the trial run is smooth, the company will be seen introducing 50 more houseboats. There is also an attempt to introduce water sports like kayaking, luxury cruise boats and speed boats from this terminal.
” The houseboat will cover Mulavukad island, Kadamakudy, Bolgatty, Ramanthuruth, Kochi Port, Wellington Island, Vypeen and Fort Kochi providing the traveller with an opportunity to experience the rural and urban Kochi,” she added.
The houseboats will also be serving home-made food for tourists.
The venture is supported by District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and Kerala Shipping Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC).
