Over 15 days before a road accident in Rae Bareli critically injured the Unnao rape survivor and killed two of her relatives, she and two other family members had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) claiming that they faced a grave danger to their lives, NDTV reported.

The July 12 letter written by the survivor and two of her family members in Hindi narrated how on July 7-8 some people allegedly associated with accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar threatened her family with dire consequences. They demanded registration of an FIR against those who intimidated them, reported Tribune India.

The letter signed by the rape survivor, her mother and aunt stated that on July 7 Naveen Singh, son of Shashi Singh, an accused in the rape case; Manoj Singh, brother of another accused Kuldeep Singh and one Kunnu Mishra had visited their house and threatened them. Another person went to their house the very next day, Tribune India reported.

A First Information Report (FIR) lodged a day after the car crash named the BJP legislator, his brother Manoj Singh Sengar, Vinod Mishra, Haripal Singh, Naveen Singh, Komal Singh, Arun Singh, Gyandendra Singh, Rinku Singh and Awadhesh Singh as the accused in the incident. reported NDTV.
