Instagram and WhatsApp are the two most popular social media apps which are the sub-brands of Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014, and since then Facebook allowed these two applications to function as independent entities.
Facebook is going to rename both the apps and add its own name. So now, Instagram will become “Instagram from Facebook” and similarly, WhatsApp will be known as “WhatsApp from Facebook”.
The main objective behind this rebranding is that Facebook wants its ownership to be in view. Facebook definitely has a grand vision of a connected messaging system between Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
According to reports, the new titles which are “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook” will appear in Apple’s App Store and Google Play. The new name will be displayed only on the app store pages on both Android and iOS. The new names will also be visible on the login pages.
It is true that Facebook has been responsible for the growth of these two platforms into what we know of them today. However, Facebook itself has been involved in many controversies in the last few years related to data privacy and security concerns.
Instagram and WhatsApp have been largely kept unaffected from these but everyone fears that Facebook could do something similar to these platforms reported India Today.
