More than three weeks after being sworn in as the Chief Minister, Yediyurappa on Tuesday expanded his ministry by inducting 17 ministers into his Cabinet. He was running a “one-man cabinet” till expansion of his ministry on Tuesday and had held four cabinet meetings so far.
The new Ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Vajubhai Vala at the Raj Bhavan.
They include former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, two former deputy Chief Ministers — K S Eshwarappa and R Ashoka, independent MLA H Nagesh and Laxman Sangappa Savadi, who is not a member of the Assembly or Council, and MLC Kota Srinivas Poojari.
Other ministers are Govind M Karajol, Ashwath Narayan C N, B Sreeramulu, S Suresh Kumar, V Somanna, C T Ravi, Basavaraj Bommai, J C Madhu Swamy, C C Patil, Prabhu Chauhan and Shashikala Jolle Annasaheb, who is the only woman Cabinet Minister.
Maximum number of ministers in Karnataka is 34,including Chief Minister.
The expanded cabinet of the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s government in Karnataka that met for the first time here on Tuesday decided to send all the newly appointed Ministers to flood-ravaged districts of the state to assess the relief and rehabilitation being undertaken there.
