Delhi:

The ABVP led student’s union on Saturdayremoved the busts of  VD Savarkar, Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose from the campus after it resulted in a controversy and triggered protests.

The union, however, assured that the varsity had assured them to re-install the busts with the due procedure after the students union elections this year.

“ABVP-led Delhi University Student Union has removed the busts of Veer Savarkar, Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose till permission is obtained from the DU Administration, ” the student outfit said in its statement.

“The busts have been kept at a safe place by the varsity,” it added.

It was on August 20th that the outgoing DUSU installed the busts without taking permissions from the authorities. The incident led to outrage and in protest NSUI- DU unit members blackened the bust and garlanded it with shoes.

Meanwhile, students protesting against the installation of the busts were detained by the police on Friday. Students, however, claimed that different students’ bodies had organised a “peaceful signature campaign” and that the police tore their pamphlets.

Last week, DUSU had also demanded the students’ union office be renamed after Savarkar.
