Bahujan Samajwadi Party President Mayawati slammed the delegation of opposition leaders who attempted to visit Kashmir, to take stock of the situation after the abrogation of article 370 on August 5.

According to her, the visit would only help BJP and Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik to politicise the issue.

“Isn’t the recent visit of the Congress and other opposition parties to Kashmir without permission act as a chance for the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir Governor to politicise the issue?” Mayawati asked in a series of tweets on Monday.

She added that opposition should have considered the consequences of the visit.

“It will take some time for the situation to become normal there [Kashmir]. It is better to wait a bit, which is also considered by the Honorable Court,” she wrote.

The delegation of opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi had attempted to visit the state on Saturday. They were however stopped at Srinagar airport and sent back to Delhi.

Mayawati had earlier supported the revoking of Article 370 in J&K

“As Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh-Ladakh has been declared as a separate Union Territory, the demand of the Buddhist community there has now been fulfilled. The BSP welcomes this too. People all over the country, especially the Buddhist followers of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, are very happy,” she had said.
