Disney is teaming up with Secret Cinema and one thing is for sure- watching movies would never be the same again. Haven’t you ever fantasised to immerse yourself in a film experience? Ever felt like going inside a movie while watching it unfold? Ever felt like being one of those characters and do things differently? Thanks to Secret Cinema, this seems probable.

Secret Cinema is a London-based entertainment company that specializes in immersive film events. Founded and created in 2007 by Fabien Riggall, it conducts screenings at initially undisclosed venues in London, which include interactive performances in purpose-built sets.

The company is known for mixing film with live music, art, theatre, and dance to create cinematic worlds that are open to exploration by the viewers.

The Secret cinema has already worked on such experiences with films like  “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” “William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet,” “Blade Runner: The Final Cut,” and “Moulin Rouge!”.

When Disney teams up with Secret Cinema

Though Disney is teaming up with Secret Cinema the exact details of the titles that would be selected for the work are not yet revealed. It is however known that they would be working with Disney’s StudioLAB, the studio’s tech-focused storytelling laboratory hub, to find the best way to adapt the movies into event worlds.

“Working with The Walt Disney Studios is much more than access to a treasure trove of titles, it’s about bringing together a unique combination of skills and expertise to build ever more authentic and amazing experiences, raising the bar again for what we mean by ‘immersive cinema,’” said Secret Cinema CEO Max Alexander.

The first show is expected to be premiere in London this year. The project also is trying to expand the cinematic experience provided by the company to Los Angeles, New York and beyond.

So how does this work?

The company would convert large spaces into movie worlds where actors would be assembled to play out the storyline and heroic moments. The moment one buys a ticket and enters the space is when the experience would begin. Each participant would be assigned a character before they are transported into the narrative. The participant then has to uncover secret storylines and participate as if they are inside the narrative.

Undoubtedly, the project would question and revolutionize our viewing experience and seems like a giant step towards revenue generation for the companies.
