Alok Nath Files Anticipatory Bail Application

Bollywood actor Alok Nath had filed an anticipatory bail application in a Mumbai court. A rape case was registered against the actor on a complaint filed by a woman writer-producer, in November. The woman accused him of raping her 19 years ago.

Amitav Ghosh honoured with Jnanpith Award 2018

Noted Indian writer, Amitav Ghosh, honoured with the Jnanpith Award for the year 2018. The Jnanpith Award is an Indian literary award presented annually by the Bharatiya Jnanpith. Ghosh, 62, is known for famous novels, such as The Hungry Tide, The Glass Palace, and, Shadow Lines. Earlier he was also honoured with Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award.

Kerala High Court grants conditional bail to Rehana Fathima

The Kerala HC, on Friday, granted conditional bail to Rehana Fathima. BSNL employee and social activist Rehana Fathima was arrested by the Pathanamthitta police on November 27, for posting controversial remarks on Sabarimala, on her Facebook. She had allegedly posted some pictures also. The bail was granted on the condition that, for three months, she will not enter the Pamba police station limits.

The Nepal government has banned the use of higher denomination Indian currency notes. The banned currency notes, Rs. 2000, Rs. 200, Rs.500, were introduced by the Indian Government in 2016.

Muzaffarpur shelter home: Demolition process begins

Under the supervision of Magistrate, Suresh Kumar Sinha, the demolition process of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur shelter home began on Thursday. In April, a report by the Tata Institute Of Social Sciences revealed that the shelter home inmates were allegedly sexually abused. Bihar police arrested the main accused, Brajesh Thakur on June 2.

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao takes oath as Telangana CM

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was sworn in as the Telangana Chief Minister, on Thursday. In the Assembly Elections, TRS won 88 seats. Telangana Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan administered the oath to Rao at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. TRS legislative council member Mohammed Mehmood Ali also took oath as a minister.

No woman MLA for Mizoram Assembly

As all the 15 women candidates lost their seats in Mizoram assembly election, the Mizoram assembly will not have a female legislative member. The Mizoram National Front, who won the majority seats, has not fielded woman as their candidate. The BJP had fielded six women candidates, and the Congress one.

Sexual harassment Charges: IFTDA suspends Film maker Sajid khan

The Indian Film and Television Directors Association(IFTDA) has suspended filmmaker and scriptwriter Sajid Khan for one year. He was accused of sexual harassment by three women. Actors Rachel white and Saloni Chopra, Journalist Karishma Upadhyay made their allegations against him through the social media campaign #MeToo.

In recently held Madhya Pradesh assembly elections the Congress won 114 seats, and BJP 109 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party 2, Samajwadi party 1 and independent candidates won in 4 constituencies. The assembly elections were held in five states. In Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh the Congress and in Mizoram, the opposition party Mizoram National Front, and in Telangana, TRS won majority seats.

2010 CWG gold medallist and the Congress candidate Krishna Poonia won Rajasthan’s Sadulpur seat.

In Chhattisgarh Congress won 68 seats. The BJP has been in power for 15 years in Chhattisgarh.

Counting of votes for the assembly elections 2018 in five states began today at 8 am. The Congress is leading in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. In Telangana, TRS is leading in 87 seats and in Mizoram, the opposition party, Mizo National Front is leading in 27 constituencies. The Congress is leading in 95 seats in Rajasthan and in 57 seats in Chhattisgarh. BJP is leading in Madhya Pradesh in 113 seats.

PIL on entry for woman in Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah; Delhi High court seeks Centre’s reply

In response to a PIL filed three women law students, through advocate Kamlesh Kumar Mishra, seeking entry into the sanctum sanctorum of the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi High court sought a reply from the centre, the AAP government and police. The court bench issued a notice to the trust, managing the Dargah.

Increase in Taj Mahal entry fee

Vasant Swarnakar, the chief archaeologist of the Archaeological Survey of India, said that from Monday onwards, the fee for visiting the Taj Mahal would be Rs 1300 for foreigners and Rs 250 for domestic tourists. In order to reach the main mausoleum of the Taj Mahal, visitors will need to pay an additional amount of Rs. 200. Visitors from SAARC countries will have to pay up to Rs 740 for a ticket. So far it was Rs 540.
