Pompeo and Mohammed bin Salman agree on the importance of de-escalation in Yemen

The US embassy in Saudi Arabia tweeted that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have agreed on the importance of de-escalation in Yemen. The embassy also stated that they have agreed for the need for continued adherence to Sweden agreements, especially cease-fire and redeployment in Hudaydah. Earlier in December, Iranian-allied Houthi rebels and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government had agreed on a ceasefire in Hodeidah and to withdraw troops from the strategic Red Sea port city in the Sweden peace talks. Pompeo is on a regional tour and journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the blockade of neighbouring Qatar is expected to be high on the agenda.
