Delhi:

The Supreme Court observed that a very serious issue had been raised after looking into a petition seeking a CBI probe into ‘1100 police encounters’ in Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi Adityanath government. The petition filed by the People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) said that 49 people were killed and 370 others were injured in encounters. The petition also refers to statements from Yogi where he clearly states that criminals will be killed in encounters. A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi adjourned the case to February 12.
