US:
US President Donald Trump has threatened to “devastate” Turkey’s economy if it attacks Kurdish fighters in Iraq. The Turkish government has long criticised the US’s military relationship with Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). YPG was a US ally in the war against ISIS. Turkey considers the YPG and its political arm Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) to be “terrorist organisations”. The US’s announcement that they will withdraw from Iraq has left Kurds stranded in the war against ISIS. Turkey had earlier stated its plans to attack both ISIS and the Kurds. Ibrahim Khalin, a spokesman for Turkish President reiterated that Turkey considered the Kurdish fighters as terrorists and that it expects the US to honour their strategic partnership.
